FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

When can I start?

You can start straight away once your direct debit link has been completed.
There’s no need to re-book after your free trial — as long as the direct debit is active, you’re welcome to attend your classes immediately.

What do I need to wear, and do I need any equipment?

We train in our exclusive Kickboxkarate Martial Arts uniform.
For your first few lessons, just wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing (such as a T-shirt and sports bottoms).

Some classes train barefoot, so please be prepared for that.
Equipment is not required when starting out — beginners often borrow class equipment until they’re ready to purchase their own.

Can I train with my child?

Yes! We offer a Family Class, which allows children and adults to train together.
It’s a great way to stay active as a family while learning new skills in a fun, supportive environment.

Do I have to compete or take part in fighting competitions?

No — competitions are completely optional.
Many students train purely for fitness, confidence, discipline, and enjoyment.

For those who do want to compete, we also have a dedicated competition squad that competes at a national and international level.

When do gradings take place?

Gradings usually take place every 3–4 months.
Our full grading syllabus is available on the website.

Is my child too young to start?

We welcome students from age 3 through to adults.
Classes are split by age to ensure training is safe, structured, and age-appropriate.

For safety reasons, we don’t accept children under 3 years old, as a basic level of coordination is needed before starting martial arts training.

How often should I train?

Most students train 1–2 times per week, especially when starting out.
As confidence and fitness improve, many choose to train more often — but there’s no pressure to do so.

Is Kickboxkarate suitable for beginners?

Absolutely. The majority of our students start with no prior martial arts experience.
Our instructors guide you step by step, helping you build confidence, fitness, and skill at your own pace.

Is it safe?

Yes. Safety is a top priority at Kickboxkarate Martial Arts.
All classes are age-appropriate, well structured, and supervised by experienced instructors. Controlled contact, protective equipment, and clear rules are always in place.

Can I watch my child’s class?

Parents are welcome to stay and watch- Venue permitting please check with the class Instructor.
Many parents enjoy seeing their child’s progress and how their confidence grows over time.

What happens if we need to stop training?

We require one month’s notice for cancellations (unless the student hasn’t trained in the last 30 days).
If someone needs to stop, they’re always welcome back in the future.
